August 05 --- Exertion

Holiday: Work Like A Dog Day

True friendship is never serene. - Marquise de Sevigne

Hannibal sighed. It was supposed to be a relaxing holiday weekend, just the four of them. He'd pictured a cabin in the foothills, maybe a stream or lake nearby. No obstacle course, maybe some fishing, casual walks through the woods, but nothing planned except to do what they wanted, when they wanted...

Instead, they'd run into Decker, spent an hour losing him, only to discover he'd actually learned how to use his radio to call out reinforcements. That delay put them in the midst of the holiday traffic (and additional law enforcement types) sharing the roadways.

So instead they were trapped in Face's latest condo. Very nice, of course, but only two bedrooms and no way it would condescend to having a pullout couch. There was a full bookshelf - filled with the actual owner's rather dull books, and a stereo with opera and symphony records. The guy must've been great fun at parties. There was a decent TV, but no VCR or cable. It was also lacking in edible supplies, due to the now aborted plans for that cabin, but Hannibal figured they'd order pizzas later. After the adventures they'd already had today, he had no desire to send anyone out for groceries.

The bickering didn't take long to start. BA wanted to watch football, Murdock wanted to watch the parades, and Face just wanted them both to keep their shoes off the furniture. After BA won the coin toss (Hannibal's quarter, not Face's), and everyone took their shoes off (Hannibal being in 'guest' mode), Face decided to relax on the relative quiet of the balcony while Hannibal joined BA on the not-pullout couch.

That left Murdock trying to fill his time. Nobody paid that much attention to him.

Never a good thing.

Face came in to order the pizzas and found Murdock by the stereo. He was very carefully pulling the records out of their jackets and sorting them in some kind of order, then just as carefully placing them back in different jackets.

Hannibal took Murdock to get supplies while Face and BA restored order to the record collection. Thankfully it was half-time...

When they returned with a load of groceries some time later, Murdock apologized to Face before going to the balcony to read his new set of comic books. BA immediately set up the VCR while Face perused the accompanying videos. Hannibal retired to one of the bedrooms to begin one of his newly acquired books, extremely thankful the second-hand store had been conveniently located next to the grocery store.

The pizzas arrived in good time, and peace finally reigned in the condo.

One day gone, two to go...
